Mission and Goals

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to help remove the shaming, and taboos around menstruation and also to reduce the financial cost so girls and women avoid period poverty, which prevents them from achieving their potential. Our aim in India is to provide packs of reusable napkins to these girls so they can complete their education.
In 2023, UNESCO reported that "in India, around 25 million girls enter puberty every year, and one in five girls drop out of school once they start their periods."[1]

OUR GOALS

Currently, Hanaru has five main goals:

Practical help - providing napkins.

By giving girls napkins in the communities in which they live, girls are assured of usable products for many years. Each girl we support now receives a pack of five of our reusable sanitary napkins.

Providing menstrual education.

Hanaru helps girls in India by providing them with menstrual education.

Being environmentally friendly.

We use recycled fabrics primarily made out of plastic drink bottles, to make the napkins.

Supporting local production.

We train women in India to make the napkins in their homes, loaning them any equipment they need. We monitor the napkins for quality and keep a check on the quantities produced.

Achieving equal access to education.

We help reduce the dropout rate of girls who can't access napkins, so they can stay at school longer.
